I went back to college in 2019 and completed a Higher Diploma in IT Management in DCU. I hadn’t participated in any formal learning in over 16 years so it took a bit of time to get used to studying again. I graduated top of my class with a Distinction and it was a proud moment to walk across the stage to receive my parchment with my family in the front row cheering me on.

My mother particularly encouraged us to study hard in school and go on to higher level education – we were the first generation in our extended family to go on to third level education and this is down to the opportunities that my parents created for us. Unfortunately in 2008 my role was made redundant due to the downturn in the economy at the time. This had a big impact on my life, particularly around my confidence as I felt that I was somehow to blame. I started in BofA in 2009, having been referred by a contact in the bank and have been very happily working here since then. I am very proud of having crafted a life and a career in Ireland, starting from scratch, not knowing anyone and having very basic English when I first arrived (many moons ago).

Fast forward to the present day and I now have a wonderful family, a very good job that allows me to grow and work on projects that I care about, and friends all over the world.

Someone I truly admire is an Italian racecourse driver and paralympic pluri-gold medalist: Alex Zanardi.
